The mission of Christ and the Holy Spirit is brought to completion in the Church, which is the Body of Christ and the Temple of the Holy Spirit. This joint mission henceforth brings Christ's faithful to share in his communion with the Father in the Holy Spirit. The Spirit prepares men and goes out to them with his grace, in order to draw them to Christ. The Spirit manifests the risen Lord to them, recalls his word to them and opens their minds to the understanding of his Death and Resurrection. He makes present the mystery of Christ, supremely in the Eucharist, in order to reconcile them, to bring them into communion with God, that they may "bear much fruit." Thus the Church's mission is not an addition to that of Christ and the Holy Spirit, but is its sacrament: in her whole being and in all her members, the Church is sent to announce, bear witness, make present, and spread the mystery of the communion of the Holy Trinity

“Solid as a rock” is something we say about people we can trust and rely on: it’s an image which figures in our readings this Sunday: we are invited to consider where we are going to build our lives. What are the “props and supports” that will hold us up in times of difficulty and trouble? The Biblical texts teach us quite clearly that in the midst of a changing and sometimes unpredictable world, and even when we are let down by other people, there is something that we can always rely on – God. But relying on God does not always come easily – as Saint Paul reminds us, it springs from faith. Anyone who has faith can lean on God. We should “take courage”, and “hope in the Lord.” ., please visit the diocesan website: https://dioceseofsalford.org.uk/ online-readings-for-lent/

We would like the children who have received Holy Communion, for the first time, recently, to become part of our Junior Choir. We rehearse alternate Mondays, in the Parish Meeting Room. At these sessions the children will also get the opportunity to practice readings for the forthcoming Family Masses. Amongst our First Communicants we have had some very good readers and it would be sad to let this talent go to waste. All children are welcome to come and sing at the Family Masses. Our next practice is Monday, June 1st , at 3.40pm Parents are welcome to stay and also practice with us if they wish. The next two Family Masses are Sunday June 7th and Sunday July, 5th.

"No one can say 'Jesus is Lord' except by the Holy Spirit." Every time we begin to pray to Jesus it is the Holy Spirit who draws us on the way of prayer by his prevenient grace. Since he teaches us to pray by recalling Christ, how could we not pray to the Spirit too? That is why the Church invites us to call upon the Holy Spirit every day, especially at the beginning and the end of every important action. "If the Spirit should not be worshipped, how can he divinize me through Baptism? If he should be worshipped, should he not be the object of adoration?" The traditional form of petition to the Holy Spirit is to invoke the Father through Christ our Lord to give us the Consoler Spirit. Jesus insists on this petition to be made in his name at the very moment when he promises the gift of the Spirit of Truth. But the simplest and most direct prayer is also traditional, "Come, Holy Spirit," and every liturgical tradition has developed it in antiphons and hymns. "Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love." "Heavenly King, Consoler Spirit, Spirit of Truth, present everywhere and filling all things, treasure of all good and source of all life, come dwell in us, cleanse and save us, you who are All Good."

By now we are some distance away from Easter, but the season is still permeated with the Easter message: Christ is risen, we are baptised in him. But today a new dimension of the story comes out: Easter is not complete until the risen Lord has returned to the Father and sent the Holy Spirit. So in the Gospel today we begin two weeks of looking forward to the coming of that ‘Spirit of truth’ which sets us apart from the world. This is a Spirit of power, which flows through the life of the Church, enabling its members to ‘proclaim the Christ’ and, dwelling in our hearts, to live in the midst of the world’s slander and accusations.
